New Look Mini Haul

I love New Look and popped in the other day…and left with a carrier bag full of bargains! Want to see what I bought?

Camel boxy jumper – £7.99  This jumper has been used in a lot of New Looks adverts as its at such a good price. I wanted a simple jumper in this seasons big colour, camel, and this one was perfect and a total bargain. Its nice a roomy and a size small will easily fit anyone 8-12. It is also available in sizes medium and large.

915 glitter Mary-Jane block heel shoes – £6 (from £19.99) Ok, they’re not the Boden ones but if you have feet size 6 (EUR 39) or smaller then the 915 teen range has some amazing fashion shoes. I will team these with opaque tights and party dresses this winter for a festive fun look.

915 metallic silver brogues – £6 (from £19.99) How nice are these? A perfect way to jazz up an outfit of jumper and skinny jeans this winter. Again smaller feet = fab bargain shoes! Hoorah!

Leopard print skinny scarf – £1 (from £4.99) I am going to use this as a pussy-bow for blouses and fitted jumpers.

Orange slice novelty bag – £3.50 (from £12.99)  I loved this in the spring when it came out but couldn’t justify buying another novelty bag (I have a few!) but at 70% off? It would of been rude not to!

I love a bit of New Look! What have you bought lately – I would love to know…

Whats your Autumn Uniform?

Autumn is here and its time to put away the pretty dresses, sandals and cute vests.  So, what to wear now? Well I personally think autumn is the easiest season to dress for with 4 ‘uniforms’ that will get you dressed in no time.  In todays blog I show one version how…

Todays uniform – 1) a roll neck, short skirt, tights and boots

What you need in your wardrobe –

  • Roll neck jumper
  • Short skirt
  • Opaque tights
  • Ankle boots

This look is a really simple look to put together. Choose a slim fitting roll neck jumper and tuck it into a short flared skirt. If you’d rather go longer with your skirt pick an A-line knee skirt which works just as well.

Add black opaque tights (I favour a 100 denier tight in the winter) and black ankle boots.

Keep it simple with no accessories and for the most flattering look keep your jumper and skirt tonal – i.e. both shades of brown as I have done here.  If you fancy wearing a pattern wear it on your bottom half and keep your roll neck a plain coordinating colour.Autumn uniform - how to dress for autumn & winter via Always a Blue Sky Girl blog

And thats autumn uniform number 1!

Look out for my blog next week on creating another easy to put together outfit this autumn.

Starstruck

Simple styling 101:  Take one statement shirt (think bright prints or a strong pattern), mix in some plain jeans/shoes and finally add a vintage accessory to make your look unique. Voila, your look is complete!

Todays look is based around a fabulous star print H&M chiffon shirt.  I love statement shirts as they are so easy to wear, practical and flattering.  I do love this shirt… always a blue sky girl star print h&m shirt ootd

I added a great 1980’s bow collar I own and cute flat shoes with gold toes.  Adding the collar is a great way to make the blouse unique – you could make one yourself from ribbon or a scarf. I saw a stylist using a satin dressing gown belt to do the same a little while back.always a blue sky girl star print h&m shirt ootd

Make-up wise I went for dark eyes and neutral but glossy lips.  Winged eyeliner works great with the black jeans and shoes creating a great daytime ‘made-up’ look thats strong but not too OTT.

This look can be replicated again and again using shirts of different patterns and colours. Easy outfit building and no-one will ever twig youre basically wearing the same outfit again and again!  We’ll just keep it our little secret…😉

Obi belt

Being quite small and curvy I always look best if I’ve cinched in my waist. When I was much bigger than I am now, I had a dress with a great oriental style belt that someone told me was called an Obi belt. An obi belt is based on a Japanese style sash belt used for traditional dress that wraps round the body and ties at the front in a bow or knot.

I’ve been looking for a new one for a while and when I came across this one from Krisp clothing for only £5.99 it was a no-brainer! If you cant get to a store they have a great eBay shop which is where I got mine from.

If you order online it comes in the most adorable packaging with a promo code for your next purchase. I love little touches like that.

The belt is one size and wraps from front to back so would fit a variety of different sizes. I would say that my waist at size 10/12 and about 29″ is about as small as it would go without it wrapping over double at the back and looking quite bulky. You could still do it though I just personally wouldn’t like the gathering.
I teamed mine with a bright patterned South dress from Very.co.uk, black tights and black boots.
