Palm Power

As it is now summer (hoorah!) its time to embrace all those colours and prints you wouldn’t normally wear any other time of the year.  There’s something about a tropical print that always feels really summery and I am quite the slave to the palm print in both fashion and home.

So when this little gem caught my eye in the TU clothing department in Sainburys for just £20 I thought it was a really wearable summer staple and snapped one up.

It is described as a jumpsuit but I would describe it more as a culotte dress. I’m 5’2″ and its length sits like a midi dress on me. It is a fitted shape with square neckline and short sleeves and zips up the back and for those who hate summer and the nightmare that is thigh rub this is the perfect solution!  Overall the shape is very retro and flattering and the wide cullottes balance out the fitted top perfectly.

I co-ordinated my new buy with some amazing OTT palm leaf acrylic earrings I got from New Look many years ago because, well, I love a Palm! I always wear these earrings in the summer and they have been a great buy.Sainsburys TU palm tropical print jumpsuit culotte dress via Always a Blue Sky Girl Sarah GorlovThe tie waist adds an extra flattering element meaning you can pull the waist in if you wanted a looser fit (I chose to wear mine quite fitted) and the fabric has some stretch to it as well as being a vibrant mix of greens, black and beige highlights.  I feel really great wearing this, have so far worn it to the office and can’t wait to wear it on holiday too.

Just TU good…

Have you been into the Sainsburys clothing section lately? Well I have and it is looking VERY good. Throughout the summer bought quite a few TU clothing pieces that I shared on Instagram and their AW16 collection definitely doesnt disappoint!

I first saw this jumper due to Alex Stedman (of the Frugality blog) sharing it on Instagram and I am so glad I did. It is just lovely. This is seriously one of the nicest jumpers I have ever had, and no I am not getting paid to say that – I bought this outfit with my hard earned money and at only £34 for top and bottom you really cant go wrong! The knit is described as ‘Popcorn’ knit and close up you can see why. It has graduated sections of different textures and is so soft.  It has quite a slouchy fit too – I went for the 12 but probably could of sized down but I like the looser fit with this type of jumper.I also bought a pair of their skinny jeans (first time denim shopping at TU for me) and I was impressed with their quality. They are stretchy, true to size (I went for a 12 and they are slightly loose on the waist) and best of all come in a short length! Their fitted shape balances out the slightly boxy shape of the jumper as being petite and curvy I usually try to keep my silhouette quite streamlined.

I absolutely love my bargain supermarket sweep!  So are you clothes shopping while you’re food shopping too? What gems have you found?

5 things my 8 year old loves

My son Reuben is 8 years old and like most boys his age is very into certain ‘stuff’.  We have bought all our boys up to not be always asking for whatever the new trend is and to value the things they are given and I find once he gets something he likes he really makes use of it.  So todays blog showcases 5 of the things he currently loves!
1) Minecraft Baseball cap from BHS – £8.00. Minecraft. It seems there is no getting away from it.  If you’re not familiar, Minecraft is a game where you build your own environments or you can go into other people worlds and experience theres  (plus fight, try not to get killed by Creepers, eat and catch animals, trade and of course, mine).  Our two 8 year old’s are OBSESSED!  This baseball cap is great quality and not too over branded… and yes, thats a creeper face.
2) Diary of a Wimpy Kid DVD set from Amazon – £5.95 (current price subject to change).  After reading ALL the books the film adaptations were next on the list. A big favourite at school – both our boys are happy to watch them again and again and we get a few quiet hours!
3) Gaming chair by Argos – £39.99.   This entry level gaming chair rocks and folds up for storage.  As our boys are still young we didn’t want versions with speakers, wifi or other gadgets but this chair makes them feel very grown up nonetheless.  They may be in year 3 but when its Xbox time things get serious.
4) David Walliams books by WH Smith/various from £6.99.  Reubens nanny bought him his first couple of books at Christmas and since then he has really got into them.  Walliam’s books are great – funny and clever with a hint of Roald Dahl to them but very modern too.  Its wonderful to see your child reading for fun and these books are fantastic.
5) Boat print t-shirt by TU at Sainburys – £4.  Ok, this is more a new purchase that I like, but Reubens been wearing it loads.  Boys tend to mainly wear t-shirts and jeans and its hard to find ones that aren’t all branded with the latest rubbish TV show.  I love the retro print on this one from Sainburys and at only £4 its an absolute steal too.
